Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF)

The HUDF is a small region in the constellation of Fornax where the deepest ever Hubble Telescope observation was made. This also makes a nice test field for KAT-7. Click on images below to enlarge.

Images above: On the left, a 6.75 hour observation from KAT-7 of the HUDF at 1822 MHz using 6 antennas made Jan 2012. No flagging has been applied to the data in making this image (image credit: KAT-7 image provided courtesy of SKA SA - http://www.ska.ac.za). On the right, the corresponding image from the NVSS survey (image credit: Condon, J. J., Cotton, W. D., Greisen, E. W., Yin, Q. F., Perley, R. A., Taylor, G. B., & Broderick, J. There is a very good correspondance in positions and fluxes between the two. On the right, a zoomed in region of the KAT-7 image, just for fun (same image credit as per left).
